Dream Interpretation

Dream interpretation usually begins with the dream but assumes that there is another meaning somewhere else in your life.

I also use "Dream interpreting" to mean looking for the meaning inside  the dream. Putting it another way: there's something about the dream that made it worth remembering. That something is a mystery, or curiosity or sometimes just a disconnect. Interpreting the dream to find that critical something is the first step in my dream work.

Many people use a direct analogy kind of thinking so that an obstacle in a dream (e.g. a door that won't open) is presumed to stand for an obstacle in your current life. It's OK, but I think it often leaves the dream before the matters inside it are fully explored.

Dream interpreting goes back beyond the bible to the earliest recorded documents (The Epic of Gilgamesh).

Freud was the first person to point out that dream interpretation depends on the dreamer's free associations.
